Energy Storage & Vacuum
Technology
Storage of renewable energy is critical import in the green transformation
Vacuum Technology is utilized in multiple energy storage technologies either during manufacturing or as need-to-have physicals condition to function.
Flywheel Energy Storage
Flywheel Energy Storage (FES) system is a device that stores energy in the form of rotational kinetic energy. The core component is a flywheel, a heavy rotating disk, which spins at very high speeds, typically in the tens of thousands of revolutions per minute. Electrical energy is consumed when spinning up and maintaining the rotational speed of the flywheel, and when energy is needed, the rotational energy is converted back into electricity.
Vacuum technology and maintaining the flywheel under vacuum pressure are critically important for the efficiency of the flywheel energy storage system. By placing the flywheel inside a vacuum chamber, air resistance, or drag, is minimized. This reduces the amount of energy lost due to friction with the surrounding air, allowing the flywheel to maintain its speed and conserve energy for longer periods.
Battery Technology
Vacuum technology is used in the battery industry during the manufacturing of lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and solid-state batteries. The drying process utilizes vacuum technology for conventional batteries, and thin film coating is processed under vacuum for manufacturing solid-state batteries.
